Let’s hear some indie rock…

Friday night I took in a show at Bottom of the Hill to see Evan Dando of the Lemonheads.

It opened up with Cobra Verde. At frist, all my attention was focused on the lead singer John Petkovic. It’s as if he was channeling Mick Jagger for his energy and stage presence. It was so odd that it took me a couple of songs to realize that the strange computer hacker looking fellow on the corner of the stage playing guitar was none other than the front man for Dinosaur Jr., J. Mascis. This was a treat!

The second band On The Speakers were pretty good. Nicole mentioned they sound pretty similar to The Strokes, and I would have to agree. I’m pretty sure they are local to San Francisco and will try hard to see them again.

It wasn’t until 12:15 when Evan Dando climbed up on stage. I was worried he was going to play solo, but was happy to see that he brought a band along with him. I was especially surprised to find the lovely Juliana Hatfield took on the role as his bassist for the tour. And yes I have had a bit of a crush on her since the early 90′s, as every boy in college at that time did. Anyway, they played for a solid hour and 15 minutes, even though it was already 1:30 in the morning and my feet were crying I wanted more.

If by chance they are coming though you town on this tour, I highly recommend going. If not for anything but just nostalgia.

Feeling worse…

I’m not sure what the deal is, but ever since I moved to San Francisco I’ve been prone to getting sick. This is already the second time this year. Nicole claims it’s because we’re from the east coast and our bodies are not use to the pollens out here, or something of that nature. Well my opinion is this darn city is just germ infested.

It started off with a little stuffiness last night. When I woke up this morning it was a full blown sinus headache. So I took a couple Dayquil to set me straight for the day, but by 2pm I began to fell achy all over. This isn’t good.

I claim this is the worst part of being sick. You can feel it coming on so you try everything to stop it. Maybe take extra vitamin C, drink an extra large glass of OJ, or maybe start sucking on echinacea lozenges. Well nothing you do can stop it, it’s already settled in. All you can do is let it run it’s course.

My answer is a glass or two of irish whisky. Of course it won’t help cure my cold, but at least I’ll be happier dealing with it.

Holy Habanero Hamburger Batman!

A bunch of us went over to the Prince of Wales Pub for lunch today, I really had no idea there could be such a history behind a single hamburger. But, once I ordered the habanero hamburger I realized I was in for a treat. The bartender shouted out “one habanero hamburger” and rang the bar bell. Then she handed over a waver for me to sign, it stated that I understood the burger was going to be hot and I wouldn’t be a wimp and try to return it. I really like hot foods and can handle pretty much anything, so this seemed a bit ridiculous to me.

Matthew Sperry

I’m finding it hard to accept the fact that my friend Matthew is gone. It truly makes me realize how precious my family, friends, and life are to me. After attending the beautiful service they had for Matthew today, I am really looking forward to the memorial concert.

More money for the DPT…

I was in a hurry running errands yesterday afternoon. I drove up to one of my stops on Mission and noticed an available parking meter right in front of the store. SWEET! It had one of those temporary no parking construction signs posted on it and the time duration was from 6am – 4pm. Well it’s 4:15 I’m good, so I slid a quarter in the meter and strolled into the store.
