Holiday Travel

I’m on my way to Rochester for the Christmas holiday. I prefer red eye flights when going back east, to avoid wasting a whole day traveling. Yes I know, sleeping is almost impossible on a plane, but I feel this helps me get on the east coast time quicker since I’ll be ready for bed much earlier that first night.

Anyway, today it has backfired. The first leg from SFO to Washington Dulles was pretty uneventful, which is good. But, my connecting flight to Rochester at 8:30am had been canceled due to the crew being stranded somewhere else in the US. This is where the next three hours were spent on the phone with United’s customer service, every car rental place in the phone book, and pretty much each member of my immediate family.

There were no cars to be had, I think everyone was in the same mode as me “get to your destination however necessary”, and customer service on the phone was nice, but not very helpfull. My brother Mike was able to reserve a flight out of Baltimore in case I wasn’t able to get on anything here. Well after sitting in the United customer service line for over 2 hours I was helped by a very nice lady who pretty much slipped me onto the 5pm flight to Rochester. I’m pretty sure she did something she wasn’t suppose to do, but I’m not going to complain if that’s the case.

So here I sit waiting… I’m super tired and really could use a beer. But, I’m afraid half of one drink would put me to sleep and I would miss my flight. So it’s h2o until I hit home, and then I’m going to make a stiff drink of some kind.
