Radio David Bryne
Published March 31st, 2005 in MusicI just stumbled across David Bryne’s radio stream. You know him from The Talking Heads, you remember Once in a Lifetime, Psycho Killer, Burning Down the House… Anyway, his music has changed a bit since then, but if you dig that sort of thing then you will definitely enjoy his choices here. It’s pretty much what I was expecting, a large mix of “world” music, but I’m glad to see he’s slipped in artists like Cat Power.
Real should jump on this bandwagon and implement an easy way to set up feeds within Rhapsody. Then sign up a couple of well known artists, find out what they are playing on their home stereos these days, then publish a ‘Radio’ stream from there.
Btw, feel free to leave me suggestions on what music you like to listen to. I’m always looking for new groves to fill up my long days of hacking.
The Kings of Leon — adolecent lyrics, but they still rock.
The Decemberists — A little too emo-wannabe, but far cooler than Death Cab For Cuttie
A random sampling in a random order:
John Butler Trio. Continuing in the blues-rock vein mined so successfully by the Black Keys.
Odessa Chen. Local SF singer-songwriter (and our cover girl for the next Play Guitar!) who really does deserve the “ethereal voice” and “delicately fingerpicked guitar” descriptions that music writers have, sadly, turned into cliches.
The Garden State soundtrack. Zach Braff has really good taste.
Ben Folds’ semi-recent flurry of EPs. If only because Ben Folds wrenches the “piano pop” association away from Billy Joel and Elton John and does it so well that I actually like it. His cover of “Bitches Ain’t Shit,” although not on those EPs, is pretty inspired. If you had iTunes you could listen to it.
P.S. Debbie Gibson is playing at Cafe du Nord.
Okay, this station just keeps getting better. They are currently playing:
* Biz Markie - You Say He’s Just a Friend
This just brings back the funniest memories of High School!
My Morning Jacket: Southern Reverb. Is that an echo chamber your in?
Verve Remixed 3. Way better than VR 1 and 2.
